Remnants
Remnants was a community-engaged project using art to confront the grief and uncertainty associated with the ecological crisis. In order to meaningfully adapt and respond to the moment, we must acknowledge our grief and recognize our interdependence with all life.
Through a series of community workshops, participants created paintings using watercolour made from local wildfire charcoal on the back of a reclaimed, deconstructed landscape photo. The paintings were sewn into scrolls and installed in the Nelson cemetery as part of the community event, Remember the Dead.
The installation included the scroll, 2000 Sorrows, created in remembrance of the species loss and ecosystem destruction caused by climate change.
